Bespoke Curriculum: Introduction to Patient and Public Involvement

This interactive workshop, led by Dr Rebecca Morris (Centre for Primary Care and Health Services Research, University of Manchester), has been designed for researchers who are new to, or have some experience with public and patient involvement (PPI).

The session will give you an understanding of the current landscape of involving patients and the public in health & social care research as well as providing practical advice for developing your PPI approach.

By the end of this workshop you will have explored:

  • Why we do PPI in research
  • Who we involve: Identifying public contributors
  • Appreciating different PPI activities and approaches
  • Challenges that can arise when doing PPI work

The format of the workshop will be a mixture of short presentations, interactive activities and group discussions. The session will be co-delivered by researchers and public contributors with experience of working together for a variety of types of research projects.

Location

The workshop will take place in Room 5.9 in the Roscoe Building on the main University Campus. The Roscoe Building is situated in the middle of campus, on leafy Brunswick Street. Entering the building, turn left to find the lifts. Room 5.9 is on the fifth floor. Nearest parking can be found at the Aquatics Centre Car Park on Rumford Street.
